The trial is now in the jury’s hands.
Closing arguments have drawn to a close in the Phylicia Barnes murder trial. Now, the fate of Michael Johnson, her accused killer, rests in the hands of the jury.
The jurors began deliberations on Monday afternoon, resuming on Tuesday, according to WJZ.
In closing arguments, Johnson’s defense team blasted the police investigation for lack of physical evidence, calling the case ridiculous.
Johnson was the last person to see Barnes alive in her older sister, Deena Barnes’, apartment in Baltimore before the teen, who was visiting from North Carolina, vanished.
Phylicia Barnes’ dead body was found floating in the Susquehanna River four month later.
The defense told the jury, “We still don’t know how she died or even who is responsible for it. What you’ve really got is a horrible, horrible case.”
