Police in Anne Arundel County say a woman was injured on Friday in a robbery attempt that led to a police chase, a crash, and eventually an arrest.
Officers arrested Broderick Reginald Bennett, 49, of Woodlawn, on armed robbery, and first- and second-degree assault charges.
Police were called to Arundel Mills Mall, near the Saks 5th Avenue, at about 3 p.m. EST Friday afternoon after a man demanded a woman’s purse and a brief struggle followed.
Police say the 36-year-old female victim sustained a knife wound to her hand and she was taken to Baltimore-Washington Medical Center.
Armed with a description of the vehicle, police went looking for the suspect. Maryland State Police later spotted the vehicle traveling northbound on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
After a pursuit, the car struck a building in the 1800 block of North Fulton Avenue in Baltimore City. Responding officers then took Bennett into custody.
Management at Arundel Mills issued the following statement:
“We credit local law enforcement for the quick arrest following this isolated incident.”
