A Trader Joe’s store in Annapolis had to be evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after freon leaked from an air conditioning unit.
As of 12:30 p.m. EST, there were reports of at least five people treated at the scene with two others taken to area hospitals.
The freon leak was first noticed at about 10:45 a.m. EST when dispatch received a 911 call reporting there was a strange odor in the store.
When crews arrived on the scene, there they found three people suffering from exposure to the irritant.
The Trader Joe’s location is expected to stay evacuated until it has been properly ventilated and is deemed safe.
