From the “you can’t be serious” department, a seven-year-old student from Baltimore has been been handed a 2-day suspension from school after a teacher saw him eating a Pop-Tart and said she thought he was chewing it into the shape of a gun.
The teacher also says she heard Josh Welch say “bang bang” to a classmate.
The boy denies saying “bang bang,” but he does admit that he was trying to shape the toaster pastry.
“All I was trying to do was turn it into a mountain, but it didn’t look like a mountain, really – and it turned out to be a gun kinda,” Welch said.
The school sent out a letter to parents on Friday explaining the situation.
The letter said, “A student used food to make an inappropriate gesture.”
Welch’s father met with school administrators at Park Elementary School on Monday night. They now claim the student was suspended for his disruptive behavior in the classroom, not because of the offensive Pop-Tart.
His father says he’s frustrated about what happened because it seems like they’re now trying to downplay what happened now that it’s gotten lots of media attention.
