The new grant is part of the School Emergency Response to Violence program, which funds recovery efforts in school districts where traumatic events have taken place, according to Perry Hall Patch.

In February, 15-year-old Robert Gladden Jr. was sentenced to 35 years in prison for opening fire at the school and shooting 17-year-old Daniel Borowy, a special needs student, on August 27.

“Information shared at the parent/community meeting and since the shooting indicates that parents and staff members remain concerned about the safety and security of the school setting and the capacity of the school to respond to a critical incident of this kind,” the U.S. Department of Education said in a press release.

The grant will help Perry Hall High School offer what federal authorities said were “much needed services” in the wake of the August shooting.
