Three Navy crew members were killed on Monday when their jet plane crashed during a training flight in Eastern Washington.
Killed in the crash was Lt. j.g. Valerie Cappelaere Delaney, 26, from Ellicott City.
Delaney was a 2004 graduate of Centennial High School, and she had graduated from the Naval Academy in 2009.
Lt. Cmdr. Alan A. Patterson, 34, from Tullahoma, Tennessee, and Lt. j.g. William Brown McIlvaine III, 24, of El Paso, Texas, were also killed in the plane crash, the Navy said.
Valerie Delaney was a naval aviator. She’s survived by her husband, Sean Delaney, also a Naval Academy graduate and Navy pilot.
McIlvaine and Patterson were naval flight officers.
Their E/A-6B Prowler from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island went down in a field approximately 50 miles west of Spokane. The plane reportedly disintegrated on impact.
The aircraft was engaged in low-level training exercises when it crashed, the Navy said. The cause is under investigation.
