Brush fire sweeps through Southwest Area Park

South West Area Park Fire Brush fire sweeps through Southwest Area ParkThick smoke was visible from I-895 and from the south sides of I-95 an I-695 Friday evening as a brush fire swept through the Baltimore Highlands.

The fire began at around 5:30 p.m. EDT near the Southwest Area Park and the Light Rail line along the Baltimore City-Baltimore County on Park Drive.

The winds caused the flames to spread near a local trucking company.

Close to a 120 firefighters arrived were eventually called to the scene, with crews arriving from Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

The fire was contained by about 6:30 p.m. EDT.

There were no firefighter injuries to report.
