An off-duty Baltimore Police Department cadet was arrested in connection with a domestic dispute on Thursday afternoon.
At about 4:30 p.m.EDT on Thursday, police in Anne Arundel County responded to the 100 block of Plymouth Lane in Glen Burnie for reports of a domestic incident.
A witness told officers that a male and female had been arguing in a parking lot.
The male who was seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle tried to leave the scene and struck the female who had been standing outside the vehicle.
Both parties went into a nearby apartment building.
Officers arrived and their subsequent investigation revealed that domestic-related assault had taken place.
They observed redness and scratches on the female victim’s legs and Zachary Michael Mitchell, 24, was subsequently arrested for domestic assault.
Mitchell was identified as an off-duty cadet with the Baltimore Police Department who was scheduled to graduate from the academy on Friday.
Baltimore Police supervisory personnel were contacted and advised of the arrest.
Mitchell has been charged with second-degree assault.
