Orioles’ Wilson Betemit carted off field after ligament injury

Wilson Betemit Orioles Wilson Betemit carted off field after ligament injuryWilson Betemit had to be carted off the field during Monday’s spring training game against the Boston Red Sox.

It seems the Orioles’ infielder injured his right knee in the fifth inning. He wore a brace on his right leg in the clubhouse afterward.

The Orioles have listed the injury as a right knee ligament sprain.

UPDATE: Betemit has been diagnosed with a grade 2/3 PCL tear with associated injuries.  He’ll likely miss 6-8 weeks.

Betemit fell as he was running between first and second base on Manny Machado’s fly ball to left field.

The first baseman was left writhing in pain in the dirt as the Red Sox doubled him up off of first base to end the inning.

Betemit was set to be the DH, but had struggled a bit so far this spring.

Entering Monday’s game, he was hitting just .194 (7-for-36), but he had driven in four runs this afternoon before the injury.

Betemit will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
