Unitas’ Grandson calls Flacco ‘embarrassing choice’ to portray Johnny U

Joe Flacco Super Bowl XLVII Unitas Grandson calls Flacco embarrassing choice to portray Johnny UA grandson of Johnny Unitas has called the decision to cast Joe Flacco in the role of the legendary Baltimore Colts quarterback an “embarrassing choice.”

As Baltimore News Journal told you yesterday, Flacco has signed on to portray Johnny Unites in the final scenes of the film,”Unitas We Stand,” expected to be released in early 2014.

“If you want a real movie, hire a real actor,” wrote 24-year-old J.C. Unitas on Facebook, according to USA Today.

“My grandfather and his legacy deserves only the best, and this is not it. Has Baltimore forgotten that Trent Dilfer also won a Super Bowl while playing for Baltimore?”

Not to be left out of the harsh criticism, J.C.’s father John Unitas Jr. calls Flacco a “goofball.”

“If you want a quarterback, go with Peyton Manning,” John said, according to USA Today. “My father was just like that. This is a joke.”

The film is being produced by Joe Unitas, Johnny’s son from his second marriage.

Bad blood within the family is nothing new.  Sandra Unitas, Joe’s mother, unsuccessfully tried to sue John Jr., Johnny’s son from his first marriage, over control of the Unitas Management brand, which owns the rights to the family name.

John Jr. says he’s now considering taking legal action against Joe Unitas if he profits from his father’s name.

“It is awful. The guy’s a turd,” John Jr. said.

John Jr., 57, adds that he’s also turned down requests from his half brother to market t-shirts bearing the name.

“They’re trying to do anything on the coattails of my father’s name,” John said. “It’s like prostituting yourself. My father would have nothing to do with it. It makes me angry, but there’s nothing I can do about it until they slip up. If they start selling some things with Johnny Unitas on it, then I have legal recourse.”
