A manhunt is under way for the person who shot and killed an off-duty D.C. police officer in Upper Marlboro on Monday night, authorities say.
The shooting occurred at around 8:15 p.m. ET Monday evening along the 6700 block of Green Moss Drive in Upper Marlboro.
According to Prince George’s County Police, the shooting was part of a domestic incident and the officer was killed in front of the home’s garage.
It is not yet known what led to the domestic incident.
On Tuesday morning, police said that they think suspect may have left immediate vicinity and an active search is ongoing.
A lockdown initially placed on the neighborhood in the early stages of the investigation has been lifted.
Officials are trying to determine whether or not the officer in question was shot with his own service weapon.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was a member of the District of Columbia police department.
