On Wednesday, the organization signed free agent LB Daryl Smith, the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ all-time leading tackler, to a one-year deal.
Smith, 31, had a superb 2011 before being limited to two games last season due to a groin injury.
The Ravens had little choice but to add depth at the inside linebacker position, as both starters from last year, Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbe, are no longer with the team.
The Ravens’ projected starters at the position, Jameel McClain (who sustained a spinal cord contusion) and rookie Arthur Brown (who underwent hernia surgery), are expected to be sidelined until training camp.
Rolando McClain abruptly retired after being signed by the team last month.
