The incident took place on the athletic fields at Holly Hall Elementary School in Cecil County at about 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon.
Reports indicate that two fourth grade classes were at recess outside when a possibly intoxicated man, now identified as James Briscoe, 43, of Elkton, approached the group, says Vince Cariello, Cecil County Public Schools associate superintendent for administration.
Teachers instructed him to retreat, and when he failed to do so they notified the front office via handheld radios.
They then told students to seek shelter inside the school building. That’s when Briscoe became agitated.
He allegedly knocked down four students and three faculty members and resisted arrest.
Briscoe has since been arrested and charged.
