Two children sustained life-threatening injuries in a two-car crash involving a police officer in Anne Arundel County on Saturday.

The crash occurred at about 4:15 p.m. ET in Glen Burnie.

Anne Arundel County police say a Howard County police officer in a marked cruiser attempted to make a U-turn at Route 100 east and Route 10 south, but wound up in a t-bone-style accident.

Route 10 had to be closed at Route 100 and drivers had to find alternate routes.

The children hurt in the crash, a 5-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl, were flown to Johns Hopkins. Two adults were also taken there with minor injuries.

They were apparently all members of the same family.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing at this hour.
