Highway worker struck and killed in Howard County

Traffic Construction Cone Highway worker struck and killed in Howard CountyA state highway employee was struck and killed by an oncoming car on Tuesday night along a roadway in Howard County.

Authorities say the unidentified worker was putting cones down along the westbound lane of Route 216 at Route 29 in Scaggsville at around 9:30 p.m. ET when he was hit by a 2009 Chevy Malibu.

The man, who police say was wearing the proper reflective gear, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver who struck him reportedly stayed at the scene of the accident.

Westbound Route 216 was shut down for about two hours on Tuesday night.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing at this hour.
