 Ravens ban backpacks, other bags from stadiumThe Baltimore Ravens are beefing up security at M&T Bank Stadium, announcing a new ban on backpacks, coolers, most purses and other large bags as part of of a new security procedure.

The ban is in line with new security procedures laid out by the NFL for all of its stadiums.

Fans will be permitted to carry clear plastic bags, clutch purses or bags containing medical necessitites.

Ravens vice president of communications Kevin Byrne says the Boston Marathon bombings played a part in the NFL’s decision to impose the ban.

Only the following bags will be allowed inside M&T Bank Stadium:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.”
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag.
  • Small clutch bags, about the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.
  • An exception will be made for medically necessary items.
