Former U.S. Secret Service agent Dan Bongino announced on Tuesday that he plans to run for the Republican nomination for Maryland’s 6th district congressional race.
Bongino made his announcement at the American Legion in Frederick.
He will be attending a “meet and greet” event at Smokey Glen Farms on Tuesday evening in Gaithersburg.
Bongino ran for the Senate in 2012, but he lost to Democratic incumbent Ben Cardin.
Maryland’s 6th congressional district had previously been held by Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett for two decades.
The General Assembly made key changes during redistricting in 2011, however, and Democratic Rep. John Delaney defeated Bartlett in 2012.
