Baltimore City playground set on fire

Fire Baltimore City playground set on fireThe Baltimore City Police Arson Squad is investigating after a school playground was set on fire.

Fire officials are not yet calling it an arson, however.

Burned plastic is all that remains of the play area at Matthew Henson Elementary School after police say vandals set fire to it.

It is estimated that repairs and reconstruction will cost thousands of dollars.

“At this point in time, it’s too early to classify it as an arson,” said Sgt. Eric Kowalczyk. “Whether that burn damage was intentional or accidental will be determined during this investigation.”

Some community leaders believe that children in the area may have set the blaze, but police are still investigating.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police.
