Fire Mother and children escape Forest Hill house fireA mother and her four children narrowly escaped from a house fire on Monday that was caused by one of the children.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office said that Elnor Tauling has been sleeping when her children alerted her to a fire in one of the home’s bedrooms.

Tauling attempted to extinguish the blaze, but it spread too quickly.

Investigators said the fire was caused by a child playing with fire, which was contained to the bedroom.

The fire, which broke out in along East Jarrettsville Road in Forest Hill, caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.

Several firefighters responded to the scene and it reportedly took about 10 minutes for them to get the fire under control.

The Harford County Disaster Assistance Team is now assisting the family.
