Cyclist killed by dump truck

Bicycle Cycling Accident Cyclist killed by dump truckA male cyclist was killed on Wednesday evening after a dump truck struck his bicycle in Anne Arundel County.

At about 3 p.m. ET, officers responded to the area of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard and Berrywood Drive for a report of a collision.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Thomas Patrick Heslin, Jr., 57, of Severna Park, lying in the roadway after being hit by a dump truck.

Heslin was pronounced dead at the scene.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Heslin failed to come to a stop at a stop sign on Berrywood Drive.

As he entered the intersection, he failed to yield the right of way to the dump truck, which was being driven by Lucas Ochoa Reyes, 29, of Annapolis.

Reyes attempted to avoid the cyclist, but was unsuccessful.

The investigation was ongoing at this hour.
