Men injured by lightning released from hospital

Men injured by lightning released from hospitalThe two men who were injured by a lightning strike along the Severn River last week have been released from the hospital and will now begin rehabilitation.

The father of 23-year-old Alex Steele says his son was released from Anne Arundel Medical Center on Wednesday and that 19-year-old John Conner Benson was released on Thursday.

The two men were found on a beach – unconscious and not breathing – on July 10 and spent nearly two days in medically-induced comas.

Witnesses in the area reported seeing a bolt of lightning hit the beach, but it is not known if the two men were directly struck.

Ron Steele says his son will spend a few days at Sinai Hospital’s traumatic brain injury unit and Benson will enter a rehab program in Utah, where his parents reside.
