Martin OMalley OMalley to announce $1.5 billion for Baltimore transportation projectsGovernor Martin O’Malley will announce $1.5 billion in new state funding for the Baltimore Red Line and several other transportation projects in the area on Wednesday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The plan is expected to lay out, for the first time, how Maryland’s gas tax will be used to improve mass transit and the local infrastructure.

O’Malley also plans to list a December 7 beginning date date for weekend MARC train service between Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

The state Department of Transportation said the new funding, which O’Malley is scheduled to announce along with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and other officials on Wednesday afternoon, would create about 13,000 jobs and ease congestion.
