Pitta is questionable for the season after undergoing surgery to repair his dislocated right hip in August.
Under league rules, the Ravens couldn’t officially use the designation today (Tuesday).
Meanwhile, the club has re-signed nine-year veteran tight end Billy Bajema, a blocker who can be used in goal line and short-yardage situations.
Pitta had a bone fragment removed from his right hip last month, but fortunately he did not sustain any ligament or cartilage damage.
That’s got the Ravens hoping he can make a late-season comeback.
“He’s working really hard,” Harbaugh said. “He’s had no setbacks, and there’s optimism.”
Ravens announce that they have resigned TE Billy Bajema and placed Pitta on IR w designation to return.
