Gov. O’Malley announces education grants

Education Gov. OMalley announces education grantsANNAPOLIS – Governor Martin O’Malley on Wednesday announced $5.5 million in grants that will bolster digital learning and to help high school students earn college credit.

O’Malley made the announcement in Annapolis with State Superintendent of Schools Lillian Lowery.

Six school systems in the state of Maryland will receive $3.5 million from the Digital Learning Innovation Fund, which will help bring text books to iPads and help schools better utilize technology.

Another $2 million in grants will come from the Early College Innovation Fund to increase students’ access to post-secondary education.

A total of six education partnerships will help students seeking science, technology, engineering and math learning degrees.
