Archbishop Curley High School Archbishop Curleys Sean Murphy named Ravens High School Coach of the WeekBALTIMORE – Sean Murphy, varsity head football coach of the Archbishop Curley Friars, has been named the Ravens High School Coach of the Week. Now in its 17th year, coach Murphy is the third recipient of the award so far this year.

One week removed from winning the 100th game of his career, Murphy led the Friars to a 49-35 win last Friday over the defending Delaware state champions from Carvel Academy. Improving to 4-0 this season, Curley was paced by running backs Marty Costes and Deonte Harris, who combined for 280 rushing yards and all seven touchdowns in the win. Key interceptions by defensive backs Nick Farmer and Kyle Barnes each set up key scoring drives for the Friars.

Now in his 17th season at the helm, Murphy credits Curley’s team chemistry and depth to its impressive start in 2013.

“We have great leadership that begins with our 20 seniors,” said Murphy, the program’s all-time winningest coach. “We’re lucky to have many talented players on the team, so most kids don’t have to play both ways on offense and defense.”

The Friars open MIAA “B” Conference play this Friday when they travel to St. Mary’s in Annapolis.

Each week during the season, the Ravens will honor a high school coach who has made a significant impact on his student-athletes. Each winner will be in attendance at the Ravens-Vikings home game on December 8 for an opportunity to be named the Ravens High School Coach of the Year.

Each weekly recipient receives:

· A $2,000 donation to the school’s football program
· An award certificate signed by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh
· A specially-designed Coach of the Week hat
