Just after noon ET on Monday, officers responded to the area of Defense Highway near Rutland Road in Gambrills for a report of a serious crash.
At the scene, responding officers found a 2005 Dodge Caravan with the driver trapped inside with life-threatening injuries.
An initial investigation revealed that the Dodge Caravan was traveling northbound on Defense Hwy (MD Route 450) when the driver began to lose control and crossed the center, double yellow lines.
The vehicle then hit a 2011 Ford E450 box truck that was traveling southbound, entrapping the driver of the Dodge Caravan, identified as 67-year-old Bernard Leslie Ferg, of Gambrills.
Anne Arundel County Fire Department paramedics treated Ferg at the scene and transported him to Shock Trauma in Baltimore via ambulance. He is now in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford, 39-year-old Javier Lopez, of Silver Spring, was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries.
Police say that driver error and weather conditions seem to have contributed to the severity of this crash.
