The 74-year-old Senator Theatre has been closed since spring of last year, but it will reopen on Thursday, October 10, with a fundraiser featuring, “Hairspray,” from Baltimore director John Waters.
Waters, along with city and state officials, will be present Thursday to help reopen the Baltimore landmark.
Kathleen Lyon purchased The Senator with her father, James “Buzz” Cusack, last year after the city of Baltimore bought it in a foreclosure auction back in 2009.
The theater has undergone $3 million in improvements, funded via personal loans, a state grant and a city loan.
On Friday, the Senator Theatre will start showing new movies and documentaries.
