House Fire 3 cats die in Edgewood townhome fireEDGEWOOD – Authorities are investigating after three cats were killed in a house fire in Harford County on Monday evening.

At about 6:30 p.m. ET, a Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy on routine patrol notice smoke coming from a two-story, middle-of-group townhome in the 900 block of Topview Drive in Edgewood.

The deputy entered the home and rescued the family dog.  The owner was not home at the time the blaze broke out.

It took 40 firefighters about 10 minutes to get the flames under control.

Three cats died in the blaze, which an investigation revealed was caused by a malfunctioning dryer on the first floor of the residence.

The fire caused about $75,000 in damage.
