MIDDLETOWN – Authorities say it’s likely that a man who was going through a divorce set his home on fire and shot himself.
Officers from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting and house fire in the 8800 block of Pete Wiles Road at about 5 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning.
Responding personnel found an adult male who had sustained a gunshot wound.
The garage attached to the home was engulfed in flames.
Police say they believe the man set his home on fire then shot himself. Firefighters found cans of gasoline inside the residence.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the man had been going through a divorce which was finalized on Tuesday.
The man was flown to Shock Trauma for treatment.
There is no word on his condition.
