The application, which launched in April 2013 as the first public school system mobile app in Maryland to offer news, events, and announcements, has been updated to include push notifications whenever the operating status of the school system changes – if schools close early, for instance. Now, the app will notify smart phone users of any change to schools’ operating status as soon as announcements are posted to the system’s website. Users can enable or disable notifications by using the new settings screen, which is accessible from the settings icon in the upper left corner of the application.
Also new, BCPS has launched a mobile companion to its public website. The new mobile site, which is located at http://m.bcps.org, provides smart phone users with information that is in a format better suited for most smart phone screens. News, spotlights, and events are summarized on the mobile home page and by using an “Explore” menu located in the upper left corner of the site. The school directory provides mobile-friendly access to school profiles, including school contact information, websites, and location and boundary information. Visitors can access the full BCPS website using the “View Full Site” option located on the Explore menu.
BCPS welcomes feedback on these updates to its mobile app and web accessibility; for more information or to provide feedback on the 1.1 version, please visit www.bcps.org/mobile.
