Duke Realty Corp., an Indiana-based commercial real estate company, will build the facility for Amazon on the site of the former General Motors plant on Broening Highway in Southeast Baltimore.
The move is expected to create over 1,000 full-time jobs.
Employees at the new facility will pack and ship books, electronics and consumer products for Amazon customers.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said the center presents a unique industrial development opportunity.
According to a statement from the company, Amazon fulfillment center jobs pay, on average, about 30 percent more than traditional retail jobs.
Amazon employees receive comprehensive benefits, including healthcare starting on day one, 401k and company stock awards.
The company did not reveal when the new would open.
