At about 2 p.m. ET, officers responded to the Westfield Montgomery Mall located at 7101 Democracy Boulevard for a report of a stabbing that had just occurred.
An investigation revealed that some sort of dispute occurred between the drivers of two vehicles at a stop sign on the roadway that circles the mall. One of the vehicles (later determined to be the suspect’s vehicle) almost struck another vehicle (later determined to be the victim’s vehicle). The dispute continued into the mall parking lot near the Sears store.
Once in the parking lot, both drivers exited their vehicles, and the driver (suspect) of one of the vehicles stabbed the 31-year-old male driver (victim) and the 28-year-old female passenger (victim) that had been in the other vehicle. The suspect then got back into his own vehicle and drove away.
The suspect was located on top of an adjacent mall parking deck and was taken into custody by police a short time later. When the suspect was located, detectives also discovered that the suspect’s 2-year-old daughter was in the vehicle.
The female victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the male victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect has been identified as David B. Goldberg, 24, of Potomac. Goldberg has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree assault. He is currently being held without bond.
