UPDATE (12/3/13; 3:33 p.m. ET): The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office says that the blaze was discovered by neighbors directly across the street of the 160 year-old church.
Nearly 60 firefighters responded from Carroll and Baltimore Counties, as well as York County, Pennsylvania to control the blaze within two hours after arrival on scene.
The church, originally constructed in 1853, received heavy fire damage throughout the entire structure.
Damage estimates for the structure and contents is $1 million.

LINESBORO – Crews in Carroll County were on the scene of a 2-alarm church fire on Tuesday morning.
At about 4 a.m., firefighters responded to the Lazarus Church in the 5100 block of South Church Street.
Several roads were closed in the area while firefighters worked to control the blaze.
The fire quickly went to two alarms as the historic church’s roof collapsed. Fire departments from three different counties responded.
No injuries were reported.
