BALTIMORE – The Baltimore City Branch of the NAACP President Tessa Hill-Aston statement on the death of former South African President and human rights champion Nelson Mandela.
Mandela died on Thursday at 95 years of age.
Here is the full statement from Hill-Aston:
“Although South Africa is thousands of miles away from Baltimore, I feel as if we have lost a dear friend, a father figure and the strongest example of dignity the world will ever know. President Mandela’s life is a textbook on what is possible if one is willing to sacrifice everything for the greater cause of humanity. Although our selfishness would have wanted him to remain with us forever, Nelson Mandela has more than earned his rest. My heart is broken into a million pieces today but I truly believe we are better people, we are a better world because Nelson Mandela lived among us.”
