Nelson Mandela Flags to be flown at half staff through December 9 to honor Nelson MandelaBALTIMORE – President Barack Obama on Friday ordered that the United States Flag be flown at half-staff immediately as a mark of respect for the memory of Nelson Mandela, who died on Thursday at 95 years of age.

Governor Martin O’Malley has also ordered that the Maryland State Flag be flown at half-staff immediately.

The United States Flag and the Maryland State Flag are to remain at half-staff until sunset on Monday, December 9, 2013.

Governor O’Malley has also ordered that Maryland State Flag be flown at half-staff on Saturday, December 7, 2013 in honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. This is in memory of the brave Americans who sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom and security of our Nation.
