WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD – Investigators with the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Maryland State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding Donathon Dowayne Cooper.
Cooper, 57, is wanted in connection with Tuesday’s arson fire that occurred inside a Washington County Habitat for Humanity home at 17618 York Road in Hagerstown.
Nearly 50 firefighters responded to the 10:38 p.m. ET, one-alarm blaze from Halfway, Funkstown, Williamsport and Hagerstown Fire Departments and controlled the fire within one hour.
Two other occupants of the dwelling escaped the home without injury.
Deputy State Fire Marshals have determined that Cooper set two separate fires inside the home after a verbal altercation.
The home is considered a total loss and damage has been estimated at $70,000.
The victims are being assisted by the Red Cross.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Cooper for setting the fires inside the home.
