Baltimore Safe Streets Program Baltimore Safe Streets worker arrested on drug, gun chargesBALTIMORE; 5:06 p.m. ET – Officials with the Baltimore City Health Department say a worker involved with their Safe Streets program was arrested on Sunday.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Baltimore Police Department confirmed that Levar Alex Mullen has been arrested on gun and drug charges.

Safe Streets Baltimore has announced that it has suspended its Mondawmin site in the wake of Mullen’s arrest.

Wednesday’s revelation comes after Nathan “Bodie” Barksdale, the Baltimore man who claims to be the inspiration for the Avon Barksdale character on HBO’s “The Wire,” was arrested in November on gun and drug charges.

With regard to Sunday’s arrest, Mullen was allegedly selling drugs and carrying a loaded, stolen handgun when he was pulled over by police. Mullen reportedly told the officers he was on parole for murder.

Police seized a Glock 30 semiautomatic pistol and one magazine containing ten .45 caliber live rounds.
